When & Where

Is Barcamp about bars or alcohol?
No, Barcamp is a reference to foobar which is used as a placeholder name in computed programming.

Who can attend Barcamp?
Anybody, we want passionate people no matter their age, interests, or background.

Do I have to pay a fee?
There is no fee for anything at all. Simply register for the event and come on in!

Who can present sessions?
Anybody can present sessions. It doesn’t have to be about tech and you don’t have to be an expert on the topic. Share something you’re passionate about, talk about your life experiences, interests, job, or hobbies. Propose a session right away!

What is the schedule for the event?
Registration will start at 8am. There will be a kickoff session at 9am. It is important that you attend this session. The sessions begin at 9:30am. There will be 6 tracks for the entire day of the event. Each track will have 6 sessions per day (6×6 = 36 sessions in all).

Do we have to present a session?
Nope! You’re welcome to just attend sessions and participate in discussions. It’s a great opportunity to learn something new and meet some interesting people.

Do I need to register for a session to attend it?
You don’t have to. But we recommend you click “I wanna attend” on sessions you’re interested in so we know how many people to expect for a session to help us minimize scheduling clashes.

How are sessions chosen? I have submitted my talk – is it finalized? Can I get a slot as a specific time?
Submitting a session just indicates that you want to talk about it. On the event day, the talks are finalized on a first come first serve basis. If you want to guarantee your talk, just submit it, and show up in time! Your session will be finalized and you’ll get a time slot assigned to you as soon as you arrive. Our algorithmic scheduler assigns slots to speakers to minimize session clashes.

How long are sessions?
Sessions are 45 minutes long. We like interactive sessions, but if you do want a full blown talk, we’d prefer if you talk for 30 minutes and leave about 15 minutes for Q&A.

How should I present a session?
You’re free to utilize your session time however you want — leading a discussion, demoing your product, teaching us a skill, or even play a game! PowerPoint presentations aren’t required. If you do have one, you’ll have to bring your own laptop and any adapters you need to connect to VGA projectors.

What is “I wanna Attend” ?
If you are interested in any session, please mark it by clicking on the “I wanna Attend” button. It helps the session speaker to know, that many people are interested in it. The “I wanna Attend” button also helps understand the popularity of a session and we use this, along with few other factors to ensure that session overlaps are minimal when we run our scheduling algorithms to assign timeslots to the sessions

Can I photograph/record the event and sessions?
Yes! We encourage people to film and take photographs. Make sure you share them with us and on social media. We use the hashtag #barcampblr!

I wasn’t able to get a slot, can I still speak at Barcamp?
Yes! We thrive on and actively encourage impromptu sessions. Gather some people around, find an open space, and just start talking! We call these Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions, and if you approach one of the planners, we’ll spread the word about it on the app and session listing.

What do I need to bring?
You’re not required to bring anything. You’re welcome to bring your laptop, or pen and paper if you’re more traditional. The event location has Wi-Fi as well

Are food and drinks provided?
Yes, lunch and water are provided for free. However please bring your own reusable water bottles.
